This blend benefits the entire urinary tract, giving extra support to the kidneys.  It helps regulate the elimination of water, supports cleansing the blood, and helps heal urinary infections.  The kidneys play an integral role in keeping the body's water levels and pH balanced, as well as, filtering the blood of impurities and acids.  The herbs in this blend have been known to assist the urinary system to function efficiently.  They may also help to dissolve obstructions and soothe irritations such as kidney stones or urinary tract inflammations.  Acute cystitis can be helped by drinking a cup every half an hour until symptoms are relieved.

Directions Infuse 1 teaspoon of herbs per cup of hot (but not boiling) water. Adjust the amount of herbs based on individual preference, constitution, and purpose. Leave to infuse for about 5 minutes. Add a touch of honey if desired. Best without milk. Drink up to three times daily. Many prefer half the amount of herb for enjoyment and double the amount when there is a medicinal need. Use 3 cups per day or more as needed but only for one week. Then rest a few days to a week and continue on.
Dosage

Up to 1 year: Start with a pinch of herbs (mixed with carob powder if needed) as an infusion or with juice or mashed fruit. Adjust and use more or less herbs based on your baby's reaction and individual constitution.

2 to 7 years: 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon as an infusion or with juice or mashed fruit. Again adjust and use more or less herbs based on your child's reaction and individual constitution.

Adults: Start with normal dosage (1 teaspoon) and adjust according to weight, condition of digestive system, and your present health or illness. Take up to 1 tablespoon of herbs, three times per day.

Use as directed. If you are on prescription medications, or if symptoms persist, see your health care professional.

Storage Store in a glass jar or seal bag tightly and keep in a cool place away from direct sunlight, moisture and heat. This is very important to ensure that the life-force and potency of the herbs is maintained.
Contra-Indications

Juniper- avoid in severe cystitis, nephritis, and when there is severe inflammation of the kidneys.

Avoid use during pregnancy and when there is a known allergy to any of the herbs in this blend.

Herb Activities and Applications:

*Couch Grass (Agropyron repens)- Considered a soothing mild diuretic, demulcent, antimicrobial, and aperient. It is a useful remedy in the treatment of urinary infections such as cystitis, urethritis, and prostatitis. Its demulcent properties soothe irritation and inflammation making it helpful for kidney stones and gravel. Its has a healing action on the urinary mucosa, and is particularly effective for children's conditions and for helping to manage examples of tension in the urinary system such as enuresis and nervous incontinence.


*Cleavers (Galium aparine)- Is a cooling and soothing remedy...One of the best for all kidney and bladder troubles, especially obstructions such as stones/gravel. It helps eliminate excess fluids, counteract inflammations, dissolve urinary obstructions, activate the bowels, and helps cystitis and other urinary conditions where there is pain, ulcers, or tumors. Cleavers encourages and tones the lymphatic system so it is useful for swollen glands, skin conditions and eruptions, edema, and weight loss.


*Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi)- Considered a sacred herb by the American Indians, used specifically for the genitor-urinary organs, particularly in cases of gravel or ulceration of the kidneys and bladder. It soothes, strengthens and tones mucous membranes of the urinary passages where it also acts as a mild antiseptic and astringent. It can stimulate kidney activity, help reduce accumulations of uric acid, and reduce excessive sugar levels in diabetics. Bearberry has been used for blood in the urine, diabetes, incontinence, kidney stones, uterine hemorrhage, bladder and kidney infections, cystitis, or more chronic kidney problems.


*Nettle (Urtica dioica)- Rich in chlorophyll, iron, silica, potassium, vitamin C, and proteins amongst many others. This herb strengthens and supports the whole body and has been used specifically for asthma and eczema when taken over a long period of time. Its properties include helping to: expel phlegm from the stomach, clean the urinary canal, increase energy levels, clear up skin eruptions, aid in arthritis and rheumatism, stimulate the digestive system, aid the kidneys, reduce hemorrhoids, increase breast milk production, and ease leg cramps and other muscle spasms. It is a great blood purifier and a safe remedy for bleeding and anemia.


*Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)- Its use dates back many years in history and it is very high in nutrients. Yarrow is soothing and healing to the mucous membranes. Within the urinary system it has been used for incontinence, as a urinary antiseptic in cystitis, and is most effective for suppressed urine, scanty urine, or mucous discharge from bladder. It is good for the early stages of flu and colds by opening the pores to release toxins, raising the temperature, encouraging perspiration, and increasing circulation. It is an excellent herb for hemorrhages and bleeding of the lungs and it can help relieve menstrual cramps. It will cure old wounds and ulcers, and is useful in childhood eruptive diseases. For the digestive system it can expel gas from the stomach and intestines, tone the mucous membranes of the stomach and bowels, stimulate digestion, and balance gastric secretions.


*Parsley (Petroselinium sativum)- High in B Vitamins, rich in iron, potassium, Vitamin A, and Vitamin C. In fact, it has more calcium, potassium and phosphorous than the same amount of spinach and is one of the richest sources of vitamin C. Parsley helps to rid the body of excess water, expels watery poisons, excess mucous, and helps to reduce swollen and enlarged glands. It is great for kidney or bladder infections, difficult urination, dropsy, fevers, and stones or gravel in the urinary tracts. It has also been used to treat jaundice, and obstructions of the liver and spleen. It can be powerfully therapeutic for the optic nerves, brain, and the whole sympathetic nervous system. It has been used to treat conjunctivitis and inflammation of the eyelid, as well as, helping to improve eyesight. It is an excellent tonic for the blood vessels and can help increase resistance to infections and diseases. Parsley has been used to treat the following specific imbalances: edema, sciatica, lumbago, intestinal worms, gas, indigestion, menstrual disorders, rheumatic complaints, bedwetting, frequent urination, gall stones, bladder infections, liver ailments, dropsy, and wollen glands or breasts.


*Oat straw (Avena sativa)- feeds the nervous system especially when under stress, specific for nervous debility and exhaustion associated with depression. This herb can be useful in skin complaints and nourishing the hair and nails because of its high silica and calcium content. Oat straw has been used successfully for gastroenteritis, dyspepsia, chest problems, normalizing the sexual gland system, and strengthening heart muscles and urinary organs.


*Juniper Berry (Juniperus communis)- Believed to have warded off the plague and was used widely by American Indians for infection, wounds, and arthritis. Juniper is high in Vitamin C. It is specific for the urinary system to heal infections and act as antiseptic for cystitis and urethritis. It can be helpful in eliminating excess water, kidney gravel and uric acid, relieving gouty and rheumatic pains, & increasing the flow of urine when kidneys are sluggish or affected by heart trouble. For the digestive system it has been used to expel worms and wind, strengthen the stomach from an under-production of hydrochloric acid, improve appetite, and heal gastrointestinal infections, inflammations, and cramps.


*Marshmallow root (Althea officinalis)- Has a very high mucilage content which makes it an excellent demulcent and very absorbent. It is also high in vitamin A and an especially assimilable form of calcium and zinc. It is an excellent remedy for inflamed parts because it is very soothing and lubricating and is primarily used for inflammations of the digestive tract and skin. It can be used for lung troubles such as asthma, hoarseness, cough, bronchitis, diarrhea, dysentery, stiff joints, regulating body heat, inflammations of the digestive tract, infections of the urethra, urinary gravel and other urinary complaints.
